Virginia Cooperative Extension has a cost-share opportunity for producers.  If  your produce safety equipment or facility needs an upgrade for GAP compliance, then grant funds are available to reimburse 33% of eligible on-farm infrastructure improvements, up to $5,000. *Participants must meet certain eligibility requirements.

2019 Annual Meeting of the Virginia Pumpkin Growers Association

The 2019 Annual Meeting of the Virginia Pumpkin Growers Association will be held on Saturday, January 26th  at the Southwest VA Farmers’ Market Wholesale Warehouse.

The  meeting will begin at 8:30 am with Registration beginning at 7:30 am!

Annual dues are due at registration.  If you plan on attending, please contact the Association by 5pm on Friday, January 18th at 276.730.3128 and leave a detailed message on how many are attending.  The Association needs an accurate count for the catered meal.

Powered Industrial Trucks (Tow Motor) Training

A   class will be held for Tow Motor training for interesting parties on Tuesday, March 6th, 2:00 pm in the Wholesale Warehouse Bay One at the Southwest Virginia Farmers’ Market.  GAP Coordinator, Kevin “Bubba” Hancock will conduct the class.

The class will train according the the requirements of OSHA Standard 1910.178.  You will have to demonstrate the ability to safely and correctly drive a Powered Industrial Truck.

Everyone that passes will receive a certificate of Completion!

2018 Virginia Pumpkin Growers Association’s Annual Meeting

The Virginia Pumpkin Growers Association  will hold it’s annual meeting on Saturday, January 27th, 2018.  The meeting will be held at the Wholesale area of the Southwest Virginia Farmers Market.  Registration begins at 8:15 through 9:00 with the meeting beginning at 9:00 am.

Agenda will be available on the day of the meeting at the Registration table. Annual dues of $50.00 will be due at Registration.  A catered meal will be available by Hershbergers Produce.

Anyone interested in attending or becoming a member is encouraged to attend this meeting.  We have several guest speakers who are very knowledgeable about pumpkins, food safety, and other important matters.

Please rsvp to 276.730.3128 or email teresa.lester@carrollcountyva.org with the count of attendees by Friday, January 19th, 2018.  We need an accurate count for our catering company.
